Vulci

Vulci is an ancient Etruscan city located near Canino, in the north of Tuscia.

Incredibly, Vulci was abandoned when the Etruscans and Romans left the territory around the 8th century BC. Today, Vulci is an area that represents a very important part of Italian millennial history, an open-air museum that runs through acres and acres of lush green fields.

When you visit Vulci, you will be visiting an Etruscan city, complete with dwellings, monuments, statues, meeting places, public baths, and necropolises.

There are few places in the world where you can visit an almost complete ancient city like Vulci.

Think of it as the Machu Picchu of Italy.

You will need a whole day to explore this part of Vulci, as it is not just about ruins and rocks.

Archaeologists have spent decades restoring the dwellings and tombs, to give a sense of what the city was really like when the Etruscans still lived here.

Vulci is particularly famous for its tombs.

Place of eternal rest for the nobles, they are wonderful underground dwellings with incredible frescoes, many of which have survived the centuries.

The Vulci Museum is the icing on the cake. You cannot get a complete picture of Vulci without visiting the museum, where all the objects and findings discovered in the tombs and dwellings are kept.
