Nicknamed “Thieves’ Lair and Spy of Maremma”, Manciano owes its nickname to its enviable position, as it is indeed located on a hill from which it offers a unique view from the nearest mountains to the sea, about 35 km away.
Manciano is at the center of the Fiora Valley.

The Rocca di Manciano, now the location of the city's Town Hall, belonged to the Aldobrandeschi and later to the Republic of Siena.
Its exterior appearance is still very charming today, while inside, it houses the municipal offices.
But during the weekends, with permission from the nearby tourist office, you can climb the internal stairs of the fortress, reach the "Torretta" and from here admire the most beautiful panorama of the Tuscan Maremma.
According to legend, Saint Leonard had been imprisoned for a crime he had not committed, when he saw an angel appear who freed him and asked him to build a church.
If you look closely at the baptismal font, you can see some engravings depicting chains, a tribute to the legend about the construction of the church.
