{"id":3609,"date":"2024-01-19T11:15:14","date_gmt":"2024-01-19T11:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/termedisorano.it\/dove-siamo\/civita-di-bagnoregio\/"},"modified":"2024-02-23T13:32:07","modified_gmt":"2024-02-23T13:32:07","slug":"civita-di-bagnoregio","status":"publish","type":"dove-siamo","link":"https:\/\/termedisorano.it\/en\/dove-siamo\/excursions-within-50-km\/civita-di-bagnoregio\/","title":{"rendered":"Civita di Bagnoregio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>\u2018Dying City\u2019<\/strong> is one of <strong>Tuscany<\/strong>\u2019s most popular tourist destinations and one of Italy\u2019s most evocative sights. t\u2019s perched on a tiny cliff with jaw-dropping valleys all around it and connected to the mainland by one very long and very narrow bridge.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the sort of thing you\u2019d expect of an Indiana Jones movie and it won\u2019t be around forever.<\/p>\n<p>Civita di Bagnoregio has had problems with cliff erosion since as far back as the Roman Empire.<\/p>\n<p>It is more than <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.civita-di-bagnoregio.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2,500 years old<\/a><\/strong> and will one day completely crumble into the valley below. These days, very few people actually live in the village. This is partly due to the erosion and partly due extreme isolation.<\/p>\n<p>That said, the lack of locals and complete lack of modernity makes Civita di Bagnoregio a beautifully preserved, if somewhat surreal, opportunity to see Italy of the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n<p>There aren\u2019t any defined monuments in <strong>Civita di Bagnoregio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The destination is the sort of thing you soak up on an enjoyable <strong>day trip<\/strong> wandering the streets gelato in hand and mouth indecorously open as you admire the view and homes in awe.<\/p>\n<p>Of the medieval architecture that remains, the <strong>Chiesa di San Donato<\/strong> in the main piazza is mildly beautiful. You can also admire the exterior of the birthplace of <strong>Saint Bonaventure<\/strong>, an Italian medieval Franciscan and philosopher.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.civita-di-bagnoregio.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Civita di Bagnoregio<\/a><\/strong> is considered one of Italy\u2019s most beautiful villages and so a \u20ac1.50 entry fee is charged.
